PaperAgent / Document workflows
Keep your workbook. Map the cells that should receive amounts.
Your financial sheet may already have monthly sections and category formulas. PaperAgent's existing input mode writes to explicitly configured rows or summary cells so the workbook can retain its reporting structure.

Your setup
Start with one document.
01
Choose existing input output
Select your workbook and list the period/category combinations that should receive entries.
02
Map clean input cells
Use empty row ranges or a separate blank/zero summary cell. Keep formulas and manual totals elsewhere.

Check the exact worksheet and cell destinations with sample documents before enabling the workflow.
In practice

Map the period and category explicitly.
An existing workbook can have several worksheets, repeating monthly blocks and nearby formulas. PaperAgent needs a mapping for each relevant period and category. Select the worksheet, inclusive start and end rows, amount column and optional vendor column.
The mapping is an instruction from you, not a guess based on worksheet labels. Use a bounded empty input range that belongs to the intended category. A missing mapping or a full range waits for review rather than silently choosing a nearby cell.
Choose rows or a separate summary input.
Row mode finds suitable empty cells within your configured range and records amounts there. Summary mode uses one automation-owned cell to accumulate only the amounts recorded by the app. That cell must start blank or at zero.
If your existing total already contains manually entered amounts, give the automation a separate input cell and include it through your own reporting formula. Pointing at the existing total would hide which values came from manual work and which came from automation.
Keep formulas and manual edits out of the write target.
Formula cells and protected cells are not suitable amount inputs. Validate the intended ranges in a workbook copy before processing real records. Give labels and vendor text their own columns where needed.
Avoid manually changing automation-owned cells during a run. External edits to a summary baseline can require review. Pause and resolve the exception before restoring or remapping the input rather than guessing which total is authoritative.
Questions before you start
Will PaperAgent identify the correct tax or expense cells?
No. You must select the worksheet, period, category and input ranges. The app does not infer the meaning of arbitrary workbook cells.
Can I target an existing populated total?
Use a separate automation-owned summary input that starts blank or zero, then combine it through your own workbook formula.
What happens when an input range is full?
The write needs review. Expand or remap suitable input space after inspecting the existing records.
