A milestone invoice bills a defined stage of a project. It should identify the agreed trigger, show which stage this invoice covers, and make the remaining project price easy to reconcile. The client should not have to infer whether an earlier deposit is included in the amount due.
This editable text worksheet separates three figures: the project subtotal, the subtotal billed in this invoice, and the subtotal still unbilled. The remaining project amount is context, not a second payment request. Earlier invoices retain their own payment status.
Use the blank version to draft the invoice and the filled example to check the logic. It is a general service-billing structure; add the supplier details, required local invoice fields, and applicable tax treatment before sending a final document.
Quick context
Section
Invoice templates, reminder templates, and billing trackers that lead naturally into a scheduled workflow.
Best for
Consultants and agencies billing a fixed-price project at agreed approval gates.
Outcome
Use this page to move from general research into a calmer, more repeatable invoicing process.
How to complete the template
Name the billing trigger
Write the stage name and approval evidence, such as design sign-off dated October 6. Reference the agreed project scope and price rather than describing the invoice only as installment two.
Reconcile the stage amount
List prior billed subtotals and the current subtotal. Subtract both from the agreed project subtotal. Keep unpaid earlier invoices separate from unbilled future work.
Check the client-facing request
Add a unique invoice number, issue date, due date, currency, payment instructions, and the amount due on this invoice. Attach only the relevant acceptance evidence.

Avoid this
Billing the full project again
The project value is background information. If you list it next to the current stage, label it clearly so the client does not read both amounts as payable.
Avoid this
Counting a deposit twice
Decide whether the kickoff payment was the first milestone invoice or an advance to apply later. Do not subtract it both from the project schedule and from the same stage invoice.
Move from reading about the workflow to running it.
InvoiceAgent is designed for the last mile of getting paid: scheduled invoice delivery, reminder timing, professional PDFs, and send-time FX conversion when global billing is involved.

Questions people usually have before changing the workflow.
Does the remaining project amount include unpaid invoices?
No. Unbilled work and already-billed receivables are different. This worksheet shows unbilled project value; track unpaid earlier invoices separately.
Can a milestone have several line items?
Yes. Name the accepted deliverables and make their subtotals equal the stage amount. Keep additional unapproved work outside the stage.
Can I download without signing up?
Yes. The text download includes blank fields and the filled example. It can be edited in a text editor or pasted into your invoice drafting workflow.
